Norwood
most closely mirrors Knox County as a while.
If
you live in one of the area’s northside communities like Fountain
City, Halls, Powell, Heiskell, and parts of Karns, chances are you
have much in common with the average Knox Countian. That is, you
and your neighbors probably share many characteristics of the overall
county profile according to the 2000 Census:
- 54
percent of you are married and 11 percent are divorced; the average
household size is 2.3 people.
- 83
percent of you are high school graduates with nearly a third going
on to receive a college degree. The median household income is
$37,454 and the median age is 36.
- Two-thirds
of you live in a single-family home and slightly less than one-third
have families with children under 18 years. The median value of
your home is $98,500.
|
- 88
percent of your community is White, and about 9 percent is Black.
There are equal numbers of Asians and Hispanics, but barely more
than 1 percent each.
- Slightly
less than one-third of you were born in a different state than
Tennessee.
This
information is from a new MPC report, Knox County Portraits,
available for free in print (215-2500) and on the Web at www.knoxmpc.org.
The report examines similarities and differences among the county’s
83 census tracts.
