General Information

Categories

  1. Residential
    Includes both single-family and multi-family projects. (Affordable housing may be given special recognition.)
  2. Commercial/Industrial
    Includes retail establishments, shopping centers, and industrial and warehousing development.
  3. Office
    Includes individual buildings and office parks.
  4. Renovation/Restoration
    Includes the rehabilitation of non-historic properties and the restoration of historic structures.
  5. Special Use
    Includes, but is not limited to, the following: parks, schools, churches, and environmental conservation.
  6. Neighborhood/Civic Association
    Includes projects or plans which have been developed for neighborhood or community improvement.

More than one award may be presented in each category.

 

Evaluation Criteria

  1. Development/Renovation Projects
    Quality of design, construction, and visual appeal.

    Compatibility with neighboring land uses.
    Respect for the environment.
    Concern for traffic flow and utility needs.

  2. Neighborhood/Civic Association Achievement
    Quality of plan or project.
    Involvement of the area residents.
    Implementation of the plan or project (Has it led to neighborhood improvements?).
  3. All Projects
    Innovative design or development concepts which are transferable to other projects or places.
    Adherence to adopted plans or policies.

 

Eligibility

To be considered for the Excellence Awards, the project or plan must be located in Knox County (excluding the Town of Farragut), and must have been completed within three years of its nomination.
(For the 2003 awards, projects must have been completed since 2000.)

 

Nominations

Nominations for awards are accepted each year in the spring. Electronic submission forms will be active on this web site during the nomination period. Paper copies of the forms may be obtained from Jill Draper, MPC, 215-2500, and mailed or faxed to:

Awards

Award winners will be honored at a banquet each August. Photos of each award winner will be displayed on this web site.
